Maui champion UConn struggles to victory

Kemba Walker scored 30 points and No. 7 Connecticut returned from its triumphant trip to Hawaii with a harder-than-expected 62-55 victory over New Hampshire last night.

Shabazz Napier added 11 points for Connecticut (6-0), which was not ranked before beating Michigan State and Kentucky last week in the Maui Invitational.

The Huskies trailed the 4-2 Wildcats 24-23 at halftime, and didn’t take the lead for good until 6 minutes into the second half, in what was a close game throughout.

Jon Diebler scored 12 points and freshman widebody Jared Sullinger had 11 points and 13 rebounds to lift the Buckeyes (6-0) over the host Seminoles (5-2).

No. 8 Syracuse 78, Cornell 58

Rick Jackson had 17 points and 13 boards to carry the host Orange (7-0).

No. 16 Georgetown 111, No. 9 Missouri 102, OT

Jason Clark hit three 3-pointers in overtime, lifting the visiting Hoyas (7-0) over the Tigers (5-1), who erased an 18-point halftime deficit but faltered at the free-throw line in the final seconds of regulation.

Brandon Knight scored 23 points and Terrence Jones added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the host Wildcats (5-1). Kentucky coach John Calipari was on the sideline two days after his mother, Donna, died following a battle with cancer.

Tobias Harris scored 21 points and Scotty Hopson 19 for the host Volunteers (6-0).

C.J. Wilcox made six 3-pointers and scored 20, leading seven players in double figures as the host Huskies (4-2) beat the 49ers (3-4).

Ben Hansbrough scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half, helping the host Irish (8-0) to their best start since the 1973-74 team went 12-0.

Melvin Johnson III scored 22 points as the host Roadrunners (4-1) topped the Spartans (4-2).

Will Clyburn scored 21 points to lift the host Utes (4-2) over the Bulldogs (1-4).

South Dakota State 82, Nevada 65

Jordan Dykstra scored 23 points as the host Jackrabbits (6-0) beat the Wolf Pack (1-5).

UTEP 74, New Mexico State 72

Randy Culpepper led the visiting Miners (5-2) with 32 points. The Aggies are 2-5.
