NEW YORK— For one night, "Survivor" became "quitter."

Two contestants quit the CBS game in an episode that aired Wednesday, including Kelly Shinn, a 20-year-old University of Hawaii nursing student. That’s a first for the show, which has had only four others leave of their own choice in a history that goes back a decade.

 "I just feel like I’m breaking down," said Shinn, who hails from Mesa, Ariz. 

Fellow contestant Holly Hoffman, a 44-year-old swim coach from Eureka, S.D., tried to talk Shinn out of her decision, saying Shinn will face tougher things in life and that she’ll always be known as the girl who quit "Survivor."

Shin quit anyway, leaving seven contestants in the running for a $1 million prize.

Before the show premiered in September, Shinn described the experience as brutal. 

"I would say this took a toll on everybody," Shinn told the Honolulu Star-Advertser. "Whether you are the first person out or the last person, everyone was affected personally. Your body goes into a state you can’t imagine. When you are so hungry and so worn out, it’s a crazy feeling."
