Clogged pipe blamed for spill near Waikele Stream
People are being told to stay out of the waters of the West Loch of Pearl Harbor near Waikele Stream after a clogged pipe caused a sewage discharge Friday.
Clean Water Branch officials told KITV-TV that about 5,250 gallons came out of a manhole near the stream around 11 p.m. Friday, with about 4,700 gallons entering a storm drain that leads to the stream.
Officials say the overflow was caused when grease clogged a 10-inch sewer pipe.
Crews were working to clean and sanitize the area, while officials were taking water samples.
