Ballots for Honolulu council race soon to arrive

Voters in Honolulu City Council District 1 will soon see ballots arriving for the all-mail election.

Fourteen candidates are vying for the seat that was vacated last month by Todd Apo, who now works for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

The district includes the Ewa area, West Loch, Kapolei, Honokai Hale, Ko Olina, Maili, Waianae, Keaau and Makua.

City Clerk Bernice Mau said Wednesday that ballots will begin arriving on Saturday. They must be received by the clerk’s office by 6 p.m. on Dec. 29.

Voting machines will be set up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Honolulu City Hall and Kapolei Hale, from Dec. 13 through Dec. 27, excluding Sundays, holidays and furlough days.
