No. 9 UCLA routs Hawaii women’s basketball team 72-44

The Hawaii women’s basketball team fell to No. 9 UCLA 72-44 at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.

UH (4-5) dropped its fourth straight game since a 4-1 start to the season, although two of those contests were against top-20 competition.

The Rainbow Wahine shot just 28 percent from the field against the stingy Bruins (9-0), who are off to their best start in 30 years.

Keisha Kanekoa, a native of the Big Island, led UH with 16 points. Kamilah Jackson and Rebecca Dew added 10 points apiece.

UCLA beat UH handily for the second straight season.

UH next plays East Carolina (4-5) on Tuesday to complete the three-day Chevron Rainbow Wahine Shootout.
