Kauai police: BB gun shooting story may not be true
Kauai police are casting doubt on whether two teenagers were really shot by a BB gun near Kapaa the Kapaa Elementary School basketball courts Saturday afternoon.
Further investigation by the Kauai Police Department “has revealed that portions of the statements made by the victims with respect to the alleged unknown suspects, suspect vehicle and how the injuries were sustained, were not factual,” said Police Chief Darryl Perry in a news release.
Police are continuing their investigation.
The boys, ages 15 and 17, reported that a black sport utility vehicle approached as they were riding their bicycles along Kawaihau Road next to the Kapaa Elementary School basketball court Saturday afternoon. Both said they were shot several times with a BB gun protruding from the rear passenger window of the vehicle, describing the SUV as having tinted windows and chrome bumpers. The teens said they suffered welts on their bodies from the alleged shooting.
The boys’ father notified authorities and took them to Mahelona Hospital, where they were treated and released.
