Ewa Beach residents this afternoon complained of smoke which stemmed from a permitted agricultural burn, a fire official said.

Capt. Terry Seelig said a permitted fire on a farm in the Farrington Highway-Fort Weaver Road area created a lot of smoke.

Firefighters responded to the complaints, which began at 1:42 p.m.

Southerly winds and damp weather may have kept the smoke lower to the ground and thicker than usual and exposed more residents to the smoke, he said.
