Hawaiian Electric Co. restored power at 8:10 Tuesday to the Kapiolani area after small pockets of outages were reported from about 7:50 p.m.
The outages ran toward the downtown area of Kapiolani Boulevard where it meets King and South streets, said HECO spokesman Darren Pai.
Rather than a single solid blackout, the outages occurred in small pockets.
The outages included residential buildings, which in at least one people were trapped in an elevator; street and traffic lights including near Ala Moana Center and Magic Island.
HECO has not yet determined the cause of the outages, Pai said shortly after power was restored.
A power surge occurred briefly at Ala Moana Center, but businesses did not lose power and elevators and escalators continued to operate.
