Public hearing planned for wind farm project

State senators are holding a public hearing on the progress of proposed wind projects on Lanai and Molokai that would bring power to Honolulu through an underwater cable.

The briefing at the Hawaii Capitol on Tuesday follows a recent announcement that Hawaiian Electric Co. and Castle & Cooke have reached an agreement on a tentative price for electricity generated on Lanai.

The hearing will be led by Senate Energy Committee chairman Mike Gabbard and Senate Consumer Protection Committee chairwoman Roz Baker.

They’ll hear testimony from the state government, Hawaiian Electric, Castle & Cooke, First Wind, Lanaians for Sensible Growth, Friends of Lanai, the Molokai Community Service Council and others.
