Man killed in Waikoloa pickup crash identified

A 26-year-old Waikoloa man who was killed Wednesday in a traffic crash has been identified as Jonathan E.H. Chambers.

Big Island police believe speeding and alcohol were factors in the crash, which happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Lua Kula Street in Waikoloa Village in the South Kohala.

Chamber was fatally injured when the truck he was driving ran off the side of the road and hit a light pole and a tree, police said.

Chambers was pinned in the cab of his 2006 Toyota pickup truck and had to be extricated by fire department personnel. He was not wearing a seat belt.

It was the third traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, the same number as at this time last year.
