Police arrest homeless man sleeping in allegedly stolen car

Police arrested a homeless auto theft suspect who was sleeping in an allegedly stolen vehicle yesterday morning in Kapolei.

Police said a patrol officer noticed the vehicle had three license plates located on the front and rear bumper and the front dashboard.

A check of the dashboard license plate indicated the vehicle was stolen, police said.

The officer approached and found a 35-year-old man with no local address sleeping in the driver’s seat. The officer also noticed the vehicle’s ignition had been damaged.

Police said the officer woke the suspect up and he  tried to start the vehicle using a screwdriver but was detained and arrested at about 9:17 a.m.
