Sacred Hearts Academy offers free math workshop
Everyday tasks teach math skills to girls in a free Math Power workshop at Sacred Hearts Academy next Saturday. The goal of the workshop is to empower math success at an early age.
Among the event highlights is a jewelry making session that teaches patterning, sorting and making changes. A "recipe to warm the heart" session uses measuring skills to create hot chocolate. And, "bubble mania" provides an experience with geometry while creating a bubble print.
Parents attending the workshop will participate in a session, "Understanding Mathematics Teaching in the Classroom," led by Michelle Manes, assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Hawaii, to gain an understanding of how math has changed in today’s classroom.
The workshop will run from 8 to 10 a.m. next Saturday and is open to girls in junior kindergarten through fourth grade. To register, call 734-5058, ext. 262, or visit www.sacredhearts.org.
