Firefighters battle brush fire above Pacific Palisades
It took about two dozen firefighters and the Honolulu Fire Department helicopter to control a brush fire along a hiking trail about one-fourth of a mile off Komo Mai Drive in Pacific Palisades this afternoon.
Less than an acre burned along the steep flank of Pearl City hillside, said Capt. Terry Seelig, HFD spokesman. But firefighters had a difficult time battling the blaze because it is in a remote area and because the area burning consisted largely of fallen pine needles, he said.
The fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. and firefighters were still trying to extinguish it fully at about 6 p.m.
