16 teams, top talent to take part in girls Jamboree
Sixteen teams in three age divisions will compete today in the 18th annual Mufi Hannemann Basketball Jamboree at the Manoa Gym.
Games will be played on the hour beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
Eight teams, featuring some of the top female players in the state, will play in the high school/college alumnae division. Four teams each will compete in the 12-and-under and 14-and-under divisions.
"We’re again holding the Jamboree the day after the state championship tournament," said Hannemann. "This allows us to include more neighbor island players, since many of them will be here for the state tournament.
"We’ll feature the top talent from across the islands, and that should make for a terrific event."
Jim Donovan, athletic director at Hawaii, will be presented with the Jamboree’s Gender Equity Award for his contribution to women’s sports.
