A teenager who had made arrangements to meet and buy a gold chain from an older man tried to steal the item Tuesday night, police said.

The teen, 16 arranged to meet in a Kalihi parking lot with the seller, 25, at 7:13 p.m., according to police.

During the transaction, the teen grabbed the gold chain from the complainant and ran toward a waiting vehicle, police said.

But the victim caught the teen and detained him until police arrived and arrested him for investigation of second-degree theft.
