Man, woman in critical condition after separate incidents of cardiac arrest

An elderly man and woman were in critical condition today after they went into cardiac arrest in separate incidents on the North Shore and at Ala Moana Beach Park, said James Ireland, director for the city’s Department of Emergency Services.

In both cases, the 61-year-old man and woman in her 60s did not have pulses until lifeguards, firefighters and paramedics revived them, Ireland said.

The 61-year-old man was treated near Chun’s Reef on the North Shore at 11:41 a.m.

Then at 12:39 p.m., the woman was discovered at Ala Moana Beach Park.

Ireland did not immediately know whether both victims had been in the ocean.
