Log on for worldwide math event

Registration is now open for World Maths Day 2011 on Monday, which is expected to draw participation from 2.5 million students across the globe.

Students from 55,000 schools in 235 countries are expected to compete in real time against one another on the World Maths Day website.

The annual event, hosted by 3P Learning, is designed to put math into a sportslike arena.

Family and friends sponsor correct answers for students at each school, with 50 percent of funds going to the school for educational resources, and the other 50 percent going to UNICEF’s Quality Educational Programs.

The event runs for 48 hours, as long as it is March 1 somewhere in the world. Participation is free with Internet access. To register, go to www.worldmathday.com.
