Korean films absent from Academy Awards

It’s Oscar Sunday, and you might be wondering whether any Korean movies have ever gotten an Oscar nomination.

More than 19 films have been submitted for consideration since 1962, but none has ever received a nomination. Box-office hits such as "Taeguki," "The King and the Clown," "Secret Sunshine," "Mother" and "A Barefoot Dream" in 2010 are some of Korea’s official entries. There is no entry in this year’s 83rd Academy Awards.

Coincidentally, "A Barefoot Dream" is available for viewing, with English subtitles, on the Hawaiian Airlines flight to Korea until the end of March.
