Punahou girls basketball coach Mike Taylor resigns

Mike Taylor, Punahou’s girls basketball coach for the past 10 years, has resigned in order to devote more time to his family, according a school press release.

Taylor helped the Buffanblu capture eight ILH titles and four state titles, with a win-loss record of 228-37.

As a coach, I’ve been fortunate to receive strong support from the school administration, parents and students," said Taylor in the press release. "Working with the student-athletes has been the most rewarding experience and I’ll carry that with me as I move ahead. I’m excited to spend more time with my wife and twins, who’ve supported me in doing what I love. Now it’s time for me to give back to them."

Taylor has been a faculty member at Punahou since 2000 and currently teaches third grade.

"We thank Mike for his incomparable dedication to the sport of basketball and to Punahou, and we fully support his decision to refocus on family," said Punahou Athletic Director Jeaney Garcia.

The school will post an announcement of the position within the week on www.punahou.edu. For more information, please call Punahou School’s Human Resources Department at 944-5783.
