Vitale knocks out Clay in X-1 main event

Niko Vitale retained his world middleweight title with a first-round knockout of Dylan Clay in the main event of X-1: Champions III on Saturday night at the Blaisdell Arena.

Vitale (30-9) floored Clay (8-3) with a right uppercut at the 2-minute mark of the first round and didn’t need to follow up with punches on the ground as Clay was clearly out cold.

Vitale relinquished the belt after the fight, saying he’s signed a two-fight deal with Bellator. He is expected to fight champion Hector Lombard on MTV in May.

In the co-main event, 19-year-old Max Halloway (3-0) defeated Harris Sarmiento (38-21) by split decision to win the organization’s lightweight title.

Ricky Wallace defended his 145-pound title in one of the night’s most exciting fights, stopping Eben Kaneshiro by TKO in round 2.

Approximately 1,500 people attended the event.
