Passed Ryan Kuroiwa for the lead yesterday

‘Iolani junior Lorens Chan shot a 5-under-par 67 to take over first place in the Hawaii State Amateur Championship yesterday at Pearl Country Club.

Chan, who at 14 became the youngest winner of this event in 2009, has a two-day total of 9-under 135.

First-round leader Ryan Kuroiwa shot even par (72–139) and trails by four shots.

Donny Hopoi (68) and Kalena Preus (72) are at 3 under; Kensuke Uemoto (73) is at 2 under and John Oda (69) is at 1 under.

The field was cut to the top 40 and ties. The third round is scheduled for today and the final round tomorrow. Golfers tee off at 11:20 a.m. today on the first tee. Chan, Kuroiwa and Preus tee off together at 1:17.
