UH beats Portland in CIT tournament

Hawaii got balanced scoring from its five starters in beating Portland 76-64 tonight in the Collegeinsider.com Postseason Tournament at Stan Sheriff Center.

Zane Johnson scored 19 points, Miah Ostrowski had 17 points and four assists, Bill Amis chipped in 14, Vander Joaquim had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Trevor Wiseman had nine points, four rebounds and two assists for the Rainbows.

Playing in its first postseason since 2004, Hawaii will advance and play Friday against a team to be determined.

Hawaii had a big advantage at the free-throw line, converting 28 of 39 attempts. Portland was just 4-for-8.

The Pilots relied on 3-point shooting most of the night, hitting 8 of 26. Jared Stohl led Portland with 22 points, hitting 4-for-11 from beyond the arc. Luke Sikma added six points and 10 rebounds.
