Symphony committee buys orchestra’s assets for $210,000
The Symphony Exploratory Committee, a group of local business and civic leaders who want to revive Honolulu Symphony, placed the only bid at an auction this morning to buy all the assets of the 110-year-old symphony, which gave its last performance almost 16 months ago.
“It’s a huge day for us,” said attorney Ken Robbins, a member of the Symphony Exploratory Committee. “We now own the assets, and that’s a huge building block to putting the organization back together again.”
The committee’s winning bid was $210,000, plus a $25,000 fee that will be paid to the auctioneer. The sale is subject to bankruptcy court approval, which has scheduled a hearing on the matter for March 30. The assets included instruments, music library, historical mementos and miscellaneous equipment.
