UH soccer team defeats HPU on late goal

Tiana Fujimoto buried a shot from atop the 18-yard box in the 84th minute to give the Hawaii soccer team a 1-0 win over Division II neighbor Hawaii Pacific Wednesday at the UH Lower Campus practice field.

UH outshot HPU 22-3 for the match but had trouble getting around the Sea Warriors’ pack-it-in strategy until Fujimoto’s left-footed blast on an assist from T.J. Reyno.

Fujimoto’s fourth game-winning goal of the season was her sixth overall in 2013 and her 17th career, tying the junior forward for seventh on the UH career scores list.

HPU goalkeeper Anu Kahele-Manners had a career-best seven saves in the loss, while UH keeper Monk Berger earned her fourth shutout of the season.
