Wong homers in UH win

Kolten Wong hit a two-run homer to lead Hawaii to an 8-4 win over Centenary in a college baseball game Monday at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Rainbows’ fifth win in a row gave them a sweep of their four-game series with the Gents.

UH improved to 11-9 while Centenary fell to 3-10.

Wong’s third homer of the season capped a three-run rally in the sixth inning to give Hawaii a 7-4 lead. Sean Montplaisir, who scored ahead of Wong, had singled home Conner George to break a 4-all tie.

Michael Blake tripled home Montplaisir in the eighth for the final run.

Alex Capaul (1-1) got the win with 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief.

Centenary took a 3-1 lead, but back-to-back doubles by Blake and Collin Bennett and a single by Pi’ikea Kitamura drove in three runs.

Kyle Mauch’s pinch-hit double for the Gents re-tied it at 4-all in the sixth. Capaul then came in to strike out the next batter and end the inning.
