A Honolulu Fire Department helicopter dropped water on a brush fire on Mariners Ridge near Kulanui Street on Wednesday.

A fallen power line is suspected as being the cause of a brush fire today that burned 10 acres on Mariner’s Ridge in Hawaii Kai, Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Some 35 firefighters along with a helicopter making water drops took about three hours to contain the blaze, which was reported at 10:13 a.m.

Seelig said the blaze came within about 150 yards of the nearest home. He said one was hurt and no property damaged.

Strong winds might have caused the fire to spread quickly but the brush was green, slowing the fire’s progress, Seelig said. “If it would have been dry it would have been horrendous with this wind,” he said.
