BASEBALL

» San Diego junior Zack Kometani (Punahou ’08) finished 6-for-13 with a double, two runs and four RBIs in a three-game series against Oregon that finished on Saturday.

» Kansas left-hander Wally Marciel (‘Iolani ’06) improved to 3-2, allowing four hits and two runs in 413 innings of a 5-3 win over Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday. Marciel walked two and struck out three.

» Southern Utah third baseman Justin Neuhart (Molokai ’07) went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI and Chris Chung (Saint Louis ’10) allowed seven hits and five runs in six innings to earn the win in a 10-9 victory over Utah on Monday. Chung walked three and struck out four to improve to 3-2 for the season.

» Northwestern junior Paul Snieder (Punahou ’08) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and recorded the final out in the top of the ninth inning to earn his first win of the season in a 3-2 victory over Dartmouth on Sunday.

» Saint Peter’s (N.J.) freshman shortstop Kini Enos (Saint Louis ’10) went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in an 11-7 loss to Temple on Sunday.

» Colorado School of Mines senior Nick Wong (Roosevelt ’07) went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base in a 12-5 win over Mesa State in the opener of a four-game series on Friday.

» Pacific (Ore.) sophomore Rob Dittrick (Mid-Pacific ’09) won his fifth decision in a row, allowing one run on seven hits in a complete-game victory over Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. Junior Mike Nagamine (Mid-Pacific ’08) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and third baseman Michael Arakaki (Mid-Pacific ’09) doubled and scored for the Boxers.

MEN’S GOLF

» Oregon senior Sean Maekawa (Honokaa ’07) shot a 1-over 73 in the final round of the Duck Invitational yesterday to finish in a tie for 23rd place. Maekawa shot rounds of 71, 74 and 73. Oregon State freshman David Fink (‘Iolani ’09) finished in a tie for 63rd place at 14 over and San Francisco freshman Alika Bell (Kamehameha ’10) placed 81st at 20 over.

» Pomona-Pitzer junior John Nako (Punahou ’08) entered the final round tied for the lead before shooting a 78 to finish in second place at 4-over 220 in the St. Paddy’s Day Classic hosted by the University of Redlands on Friday. Nako shot 73 and 69 in the first two rounds.

» Pacific (Ore.) senior Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep ’07) shot rounds of 73 and 75 to finish in first place at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Sunday. Bonk finished with a 4-over 148, which was 11 strokes better than the second-place finisher.

WOMEN’S GOLF

» UCLA junior Stephanie Kono (Punahou ’08) shot a final round 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for eighth place at the Battle at Rancho Bernardo that ended yesterday. Kono sandwiched a 78 between two rounds of 71 to finish at 4 over for the tournament.

» Tulsa sophomore Kristina Merkle (Moanalua ’09) finished in a tie for sixth place at 10-over 226 at the BYU at Entrada Classic that ended yesterday. Merkle bounced back from an opening-round 80 to shoot a 71 and a 75.

» Portland State sophomore Britney Yada (Waiakea ’09) shot an even-par 72 yesterday to finish in a tie for fourth place at the Folino Invitational. Yada finished at 5-over 149 for the tournament.

SOFTBALL

» New Mexico State first baseman Hoku Nohara (Kamehameha ‘07) hit four home runs in six games and was named the Western Athletic Conference hitter of the week for the second time this season. Nohara drove in 10 runs while hitting .429 in the series against No. 7 Arizona and No. 14 Nebraska. Her three-run homer lifted the Aggies to a 4-3 upset of Nebraska on Friday, NMSU’s first win over a ranked opponent since 2008. She hit her 18th homer of the season in a loss to the Cornhuskers on Sunday, breaking the school’s single-season record.

» East Carolina freshman second baseman Kristi Oshiro (Mililani ’10) finished 4-for-11 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs as the Pirates took two of three games over the weekend against Marshall.

» Mississippi State outfielder Kaili Smith (Kapolei ’08) finished 5-for-8 with two runs, three RBIs and three walks in a three-game sweep of Arkansas over the weekend.

» BYU first baseman Katie Manuma (Campbell ’10) hit .363 (4-for-11) over five games to help the Cougars win the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.

» Eastern Kentucky third baseman Shyenne Hussey (Kailua ’06) finished 3-for-6 with a home run and two runs scored in a doubleheader split against Tennessee Tech yesterday. Pitcher Noelani Esperas (Kamehameha ’07) took the loss in the first game, allowing four runs on nine hits in 613 innings with three walks and two strikeouts.

» Western Oregon senior Tierra-Lyn Cuba (Mililani ’07) finished 5-for-8 with four runs scored and a stolen base in a four-game split against Central Washington over the weekend.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

» UCLA senior Brittany Beauchan (Punahou ’07) earned honorable-mention honors at the NCAA championships on Saturday, advancing to the B final in the 200 breaststroke. Beauchan advanced to the B final with a 12th-place swim of 2:10.42 and finished in 10th overall in the final with a time of 2:04.54.

» Southern California sophomore Christel Simms (Punahou ’09) swam the anchor leg in the 200-yard medley relay team to help the Trojans finish third in the event at the NCAA championships on Saturday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

» Portland freshman Gabrielle Gorence (Mid-Pacific ’10) won both of her doubles matches over the weekend as the Pilots split two games, beating Portland 4-3 on Sunday and losing to Washington 5-2 on Monday.

» Cal State Northridge senior Brooke Doane (Kamehameha ’07) won in both No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles to score the Matadors’ only point in a 6-1 loss to Dartmouth on Saturday.

» Redlands (Calif.) senior Sara Yoshinaga (‘Iolani ’07) sealed the win with her victory in the No. 3 singles position and also won her doubles match in an 8-1 victory over Linfield (Ore.) on Friday.

» George Fox freshman Shaina Inn (Hawaii Baptist ’10) won in both No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles to help the Bruins claim their first shutout of the season with a 9-0 victory over Hamline College on Sunday.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD

» Pacific (Ore.) senior Murphy Busek (Waiakea ’07) finished 11th in the hammer throw with a mark of 134 feet, 2 inches and placed 12th in the shot put with a distance of 43 feet, 8.5 inches at the Oregon Preview on Saturday.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

» Pacific (Ore.) junior Jenna Matsumoto (University ’08) was the only female for the Boxers to compete at the Oregon Preview, finishing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.97 on Saturday.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

» Stanford senior Spencer McLachlin (Punahou ’07) hit .386 with a match-high 24 kills and seven digs, and Erik Shoji (Punahou ’08) had 10 digs and two assists in a five-set loss to California Baptist on Saturday.

» Brigham Young junior middle blocker Futi Tavana (Kauai ’05) hit .625 with 11 kills and six block assists in a sweep of Cal State Northridge on Saturday. Junior Danny Rodrick (Kapaa ’07) had 22 assists and six digs and Kaleo Baxter (Kauai ’05) added six digs for the Matadors.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

» Pacific (Calif.) senior Dara Tawarahara (‘Iolani ’07) scored three goals in a win over Fresno Pacific and added four goals, two steals and an assist in a 12-5 win over Marist on Friday.
