UH softball: Wahine sweep Utah State
Hawaii pitchers Kaia Parnaby and Stephanie Ricketts both threw three-hit shutouts and the Rainbow Wahine softball team completed a series sweep of Utah State today.
Parnaby had 10 strikeouts in UH’s 8-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Ricketts had six strikeouts and walked none and the Wahine closed the series with a 2-0 victory to improve to 25-9 overall and 3-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.
Jessica Iwata and Sharla Kliebenstein hit home runs in the first game and the game ended in the sixth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.
The second game was delayed by rain three times in the first two innings and was scoreless heading into the sixth. The Wahine finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth when Jasey Jensen lined a double to left field to score Melissa Gonzalez and Sarah Robinson with the decisive runs.
The Wahine head on the road next week to face Fresno State in a three-game series starting April 1.
