$1 million given to Aloha for Japan

The Aloha for Japan campaign, a statewide coordinated initiative to help the people of Japan following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, has collected more than $1 million in donations, a spokes­woman said.

Hawaii’s largest banks are serving as collection points for donations made payable to "Aloha for Japan." The money is being forwarded to the Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Japan-America Society of Hawaii. The latter organization will donate all proceeds to the Japa­nese Red Cross Society.

GRP Home Co., a cooperative of Hi-Life/Buti­groove, Fitted Hawaii, In4mation, Aloha Army and Barefoot League, have sold "Aloha for Japan" T-shirts and gave $30,000 to the campaign this week.

Monetary donations can be made at American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawaii, Central Pacific Bank, Finance Factors, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaii National Bank, HomeStreet Bank, Pacific Rim Bank and Territorial Savings Bank.

Checks payable to "Aloha for Japan" can be mailed to 2454 S. Bere­ta­nia St., Suite 201, Hono­lulu, HI 96826. Checks mailed to this address will be donated to the Japan-America Society of Hawaii.

Papa John’s to hold drive Tuesday

Papa John’s Hawaii locations will donate 25 percent of orders made on Tuesday to the American Red Cross for disaster relief. To participate in the fund drive, customers need to peel the price label from the side of their pizza box and stick it onto the Papa John’s Red Cross flier, available at the counter or from the delivery driver, then give the flier to the counter personnel or driver. Visit open houses, contribute money

House-hunters attending Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties open houses on March 27, April 3 and April 10 will be able to contribute to a fund drive for the Japan-America Society of Hawaii.

The drive will collect donations in 120 house-shaped collection boxes provided by Old Republic Title & Escrow. Donations are tax-deductible.

Hilo Hattie kicks in $10,000, sells T’s

Hilo Hattie presented $10,000 to the American Red Cross for relief efforts Wednesday during the KHON2 "Kokua for Japan" telethon. The company’s donation included $7,300 collected from customers around the state.

Hilo Hattie is also selling T-shirts in two designs. The shirts cost $9.99 plus tax and will be available at all eight Hilo Hattie and Island Edge Hawaii stores. T-shirts will also be available for purchase at Hilo­Hattie.com by the end of March.
