Search and rescue crews resumed a search Monday morning for a missing bodysurfer in the Sandy Beach area, a fire department spokesman said.

Fire Capt. Robert Main said the fire department is searching the water and shoreline between Hanauma Bay and the blow hole for Lance Kaowili, 49, of Kalama Valley.

He was last seen wearing black board shorts and swim fins at the beach on Thursday.

Main said the windy conditions made visibility in the water difficult because of the choppy surf.

“The water gets really murky,” Main said. “There’s eddys in the area that we couldn’t get into because of the windy, choppy conditions.”

Rescue personnel conducted air and land searches for the second consecutive day Sunday, but were unable to locate Kaowili.

Two engines, a Jetski, rescue boat and helicopter are conducting the search.

“Our hopes and prayers are with the family,” Main said.
