BASKETBALL

Whippy named to All-America team

BYU-Hawaii senior guard Marques Whippy was named to the Basketball Times’ All-America third team yesterday.

Whippy, the PacWest player of the year, helped the Seasiders to a runner-up finish in Saturday’s NCAA D-II national championship game. He led the country in rebounds (12.0 rpg).

Honor roll

» Sergio Contreras, HPU: The senior right-hander allowed one hit, striking out four, over six innings in the 9-0 win over Academy of Art.

» Keoni Manago, UHH: The senior outfielder out of Roosevelt hit .591 (13-for-22) with four RBIs as the Vulcans went 0-8 on the road.

» Brent Queen, HPU: The sophomore right-hander scattered four hits and walked seven over six innings in a 10-1 win over Academy of Art.

» Doug Bischoff, BYUH: The junior tied for 52nd overall with a 243 at the Mustang Invitational hosted by Western New Mexico in Albuquerque.

» Jon Scholari, BYUH: The junior tied for 43rd with a 240, helping the Seasiders to an 11th-place finish at the Mustang Invitational.
