UH softball: UH defeats Nevada 3-1
Hawaii pitcher Stephanie Ricketts struck out eight in a complete-game performance and the Rainbow Wahine softball team opened a Western Athletic Conference series with Nevada with a 3-1 win tonight at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Ricketts held the Wolf Pack to three hits and walked none as UH broke a three-game losing streak to improve to 26-12 overall and 4-3 in WAC play.
Sarah Robinson gave UH the lead with a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second inning. The Wahine added an insurance run in the fifth when Kelly Majam doubled to left field, advanced on a single by Jessica Iwata and scored on a double steal.
Nevada scored its lone run in the sixth on Karley Hopkins’ RBI single to center. Ricketts then retired the next five hitters in order and raised her record to 16-9.
The series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at RWSS.
