Coast Guard gives skipper an award for rescuing fishermen

The U.S. Coast Guard has given a public service award to the skipper of a fishing boat who helped rescue 22 fishermen whose boat sank nearly 1,000 miles from American Samoa last year.

The Coast Guard said Wednesday Edward Ratigan of North Carolina received the award during a ceremony in Guam.

Ratigan responded to a distress call from the Majestic Blue last June. Ratigan arrived in time to save the 22 fishermen from the sinking boat.
