San Francisco rattled on 105th anniversary of Great 1906 Earthquake

PACIFICA, Calif.  >> An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.8 rattled an area outside of San Francisco today, but besides a local power outage, no damage or injuries have been reported.

The quake this afternoon comes after dozens gathered early this morning to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the Great 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco.

The U.S. Geological Survey said today’s quake hit about two miles southeast of Pacifica, or about 12 miles south of San Francisco at 2:57 p.m.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but Pacifica police say there are some power outages in the city. Capt. Jim Tasa did not know the exact cause of the outage, or how many people were affected, but said the outage hit around the same time the quake was reported.

There are only three known survivors left of that devastating quake and ensuing fire that killed thousands.
