‘Iolani’s Cundiff going to USC

‘Iolani senior Tyler Cundiff has committed to play volleyball for the University of Southern California.

Cundiff is also a national merit scholar and a recipient of presidential scholar status at USC.

Cundiff was the MVP of the 2008 USA Junior Olympic boys volleyball tournament and was second team all-state for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and Honolulu Advertiser last year.

Kamehameha soccer coach resigns

Longtime Kamehameha boys soccer coach Andrew AhNew has stepped down.

AhNew, who guided the Warriors to state championships in 2005 and ’08, cited work demands for his decision.

There are five teams in the boys program at Kamehameha, which requires time and energy, he added.

Wildcats welcome new coach

Former Kealakehe football coach Clifton Waters is the new coach at Konawaena.

In his one season at the helm in 2006, Walters led Kealakehe to a Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I title.

He steps in for Aaron Nagata, who resigned after four seasons to focus on additional career educational opportunities.
