A sweet deal

Chill out on April 27 at Baskin-Robbins when the ice cream chain holds its fifth annual 31 Cent Scoop Night, where a 2.5- ounce scoop of any flavor is sold at that special price. This year, they’re spotlighting the National Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation with a $100,000 donation. In honor of its beneficiary, Baskin-Robbins has created a special flavor for April, Firehouse #31, vanilla ice cream laced with hot cinnamon and red hot candy. The deal runs 5 to 10 p.m. at all locations.

Kapolei Rotary Club to raise glasses, funds

The Rotary Club of Kapolei will host a wine-tasting event at Ko Olina Resort.

From 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, "An Evening at Lanikuhonua" will feature taste tents and chef demonstrations from Roy’s Restaurant Ko Olina and P.F. Chang’s China Bistro.

The event will fund the club’s humanitarian missions abroad.

Tickets are $55, $1,000 to sponsor a table of 10. Call 722-1489.

Earth Day discussion focuses on food safety

Learn about the latest developments in food safety on Earth Day at a panel discussion in Haleiwa.

Participants include Carter Allen of Celestial Natural Foods, Paul Achitoff of Earthjustice, Mark Ferguson of Down to Earth, Alapaki Luke of the Taro Task Force and organic farmer Hector Valenzuela.

Watch ‘Mama T’ whip up simple vegetarian meals

Trisha "Mama T" Gonsalves will present "Vegetarian Food Made Simple," a cooking demonstration at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kapolei Public Library.

Gonsalves will make vegetarian versions of such dishes as Mexican nachos. Samples and pamphlets will be available at the library at 1020 Manawai St. Call 693-7050.

TV chef top attraction for Kahala wine events

The annual Kahala Wine and Food Classic this year brings to Hawaii Bravo TV chef Cindy Pawlcyn and Napa Valley vinters Suzanne Pride Bryan and Stuart Bryan for events on Friday and Saturday.

Taste of Waialua to shine light on North Shore

The 4th Annual Taste of Waialua celebrates food stuffs from the North Shore, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Old Sugar Mill.

Events include free behind-the-scenes tours at the processing site of Waialua Coffee and Cacao/Dole.

Participants include Waialua Soda Works; Kahuku, Mohala and Poamoho Farms; Waialua Farmers Co-op; Sugar Mill Natural Shave Ice; North Shore Baker Dude’s Baked Goods; and Wayne’s Homemade Jams.
