UH baseball: No. 19 Fresno State rolls over Hawaii

Jordan Ribera scored Dusty Robinson on an RBI single in the seventh inning to give Fresno State a 12-2 win over Hawaii in a Western Athletic Conference game called due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The 19th-ranked Bulldogs (30-9, 10-5) moved within a half-game of the Rainbows (24-19, 9-3) in league play by taking the final two games of the series to earn a split.

Connor Little started for UH but was pulled with two outs in the second. A single and three walks in the inning loaded the bases with two outs, but Randy Yard got Danny Muno to fly out to the warning track in left field to escape the jam.

Little lost his third start in a row to drop to 3-4.

Garrett Weber and Kenny Wise hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the fourth to put Fresno up 3-0.

Muno returned the favor in the fourth, singling up the middle off reliever Brent Harrison to score Aaron Judge and make it 4-0. Ribera added a two-run single and Weber had an RBI hit off of Blair Walters to push the Bulldogs ahead 7-0.

Jeff Van Doornum broke up the shutout with a two-run double in the sixth to make the score 8-2.

Fresno State scored three in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 11-2.

Tom Harlan (4-2) allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win.

Hawaii had four errors and used seven different pitchers in the game.

Fresno State is 21-4 at home all year, losing twice to Hawaii to drop six spots in this week’s Baseball America Top 25 poll. The Bulldogs play at Louisiana Tech this weekend while the Rainbows continue their road trip at Nevada.
