Bank teller foils home repair scam
An alert First Hawaiian Bank teller saved an elderly customer from a home repair scam.
The bank said Thursday when the suspect tried to cash the customer’s check the teller recognized the name as belonging to the same person who had been involved in several other elder abuse complaints.
The teller notified bank security, who called police.
The customer, in her 80s, was approached by a man offering to do repairs on her home.
They had agreed on a price but the man demanded more money, so the woman wrote him a check.
