A 29-year-old Kalihi man is behind bars awaiting charges after allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and then trying to force his way back into their Kuhio Park Terrace apartment.

Police said the man assaulted the woman, 34, about 5 p.m. Sunday and then fled the scene. He returned about three hours later and tried to enter the apartment unit, but another female, 14, refused to let him in after dead-bolting the door. The suspect then threatened to kill the girl, and began stabbing the door with an unknown object, police said.

When police arrived, the suspect allegedly ran to another floor of the building and illegally into another unit. A resident of that unit saw the suspect throw a knife into his trash can, police said.

The suspect was later arrested on suspicion of abuse of a household member, first-degree terroristic threatening, abuse of a household member and unauthorized entry into a dwelling.
