Some of the planet’s rarest plant species will be on view when the Harold L. Lyon Arboretum in Manoa offers tours of its Micro-Propagation Laboratory from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The research facility, rarely open to the public, boasts a groundbreaking tissue culture program for test-tube propagation of endangered plants and houses more than 16,000 individual plants and 160 native plant species.

The tours are part of Lyon Arboretum’s celebration of Endangered Species Day. Other activities include a minilab where children can learn propagation techniques and take home their own plants, a family film festival featuring conservation movies, and a plant sale. Call 988-0461 or visit www.hawaii.edu/lyonarboretum. Lyon Arboretum is at 3860 Manoa Road.
