Rainbows earn doubleheader split at New Mexico State
Kolten Wong batted 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs and Collin Bennett finished the day 5-for-6 with three doubles as Hawaii defeated New Mexico State 14-4 to earn a doubleheader split on Thursday at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces, N.M.
Tanner Waite hit a two-run homer, Zachary Voight added a solo shot and Wesley Starkes went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs as the Aggies won the opener 14-5.
Hawaii (31-22, 16-6 Western Athletic Conference) can earn a share of the regular-season WAC championship with a win in either of its last two games.
The Aggies lost Game 2 by 10 runs despite outhitting the Rainbows 16-14.
Blair Walters (7-2) pitched five shutout innings, allowing seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts, in relief of starter Jarrett Arakawa in Game 2.
Matt Sisto (4-5) took the loss in the first game, allowing seven runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings.
