Rainbows get No. 1 seed

The Hawaii baseball team will be the No. 1 seed in the Western Athletic Conference tournament that begins on Wednesday at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.

The Rainbows (32-23, 17-7) won the tiebreaker over Fresno State (37-14, 17-7) due to Louisiana Tech and Nevada both winning on Sunday.

The two teams finished tied for third in the league standings but the Bulldogs are the No. 3 seed because they won three of four against the Wolf Pack.

Hawaii finished 3-1 against Louisiana Tech while Fresno State finished 2-2, thus giving the Rainbows the No. 1 seed.

Hawaii clinched a share of the regular-season WAC title for the first time since 1992. The Bulldogs earned at least a share of the conference title for the sixth straight year.

Hawaii begins tournament play on Thursday against the lowest seeded team that wins on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. Hawaii time.
