Fitness day geared toward seniors

Healthy aging resources, exercise classes, blood pressure screenings and an arthritis workshop will be a part of the 18th annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day on Wednesday.

The event will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at the YWCA central branch at 401 Atkinson Drive.

This year’s theme is "Make Fitness a Goal for Life" and encourages seniors to live a healthy, active lifestyle by incorporating physical activity into their daily routines.

Exercise class offerings include tai chi at 9:30 a.m., which uses easy movements to help increase mobility. A Zumba Gold dance class will be held at 10 a.m. A "silver and fit" class, designed for nonactive to moderately active adults, focuses on flexibility, joint stability, coordination, muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance, will be held at 9 a.m.
