Man charged after allegedly using gun in parking dispute

A 47-year-old Moiliili man was scheduled for his initial appearance in District Court today for allegedly threatening three people with a handgun in a dispute over a parking space in the Salt Lake area.

Authorities charged Cornelius A. Ashton with three counts of first degree terroristic threatening after he turned himself in at the main police station Tuesday afternoon. He was being held on $30,000 bail.

Police said that on March 20, three women stopped to yield to Ashton’s vehicle which was reversing out of a parking space. Police said Ashton allegedly got out of his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the women, ordering them to move back.

Ashton drove away, but was later identified and agreed to turn himself in, police said.
