Hawaii not selected to NCAA baseball tournament

JEFFREY LOWMAN / SPECIAL TO THE STAR-ADVERTISER
Hawaii's Kolten Wong got caught in a rundown and was tagged out to end the first inning against Fresno State.

As expected, the University of Hawaii baseball team did not receive an at-large bid today by the selection committee.

The only team to advance out of the Western Athletic Conference was tournament champion Fresno State. The Bulldogs, who shared the regular-season title with the Rainbows, will open in the UCLA regional against Cal-State Irvine. The Bulldogs are the No. 3 seed in that regional.

Hawaii ends the season with a 34-25 record and disappointed it didn’t get selected. UH head coach Mike Trapasso felt the Rainbows should have been in the tournament, despite losing to nationally ranked Fresno State four consecutive games.
