Brushfire chars 4 acres near Coast Guard Air Station
A brushfire burned four to five acres off Nimitz Beach next to the Coast Guard Air Station in Kalaleoa around noon today.
Honolulu and federal firefighters were dispatched to the fire about 11:26 a.m., said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig. It was reported under control about 12:22 p.m. but firefighters were expected to on the scene through mid-afternoon, putting out hot spots, he said.
The blaze was not near any cabins or any structures at the Coast Guard station, and Coast Guard operations were not affected by the situation, Seelig said.
