A Honolulu barista has won second place in international competition.

In Bogata, Colombia, today, Pete Licata won the No. 2 spot in the World Barista Championship.

Licata is coffee quality manager at Honolulu Coffee Co.

Taking first place was Alejandro Mendez of El Salvador, according to an annoucement of the results.

The other finalists came from Spain, Japan, Australia and the United Kingdom.

LIcata represented the United States since he won the U.S. Barista Championship in Houston in May.

His so-called “fruit to cup: performance can be

viewed at www.worldbaristachampionship.com.
