A 40-year-old tourist was in critical condition after a mo-ped accident near Heeia State Park.

Police said the woman was headed north on Kamehemeha Highway when she lost control of the 2010 white mo-ped on a slight curve in the road at about 2:26 p.m. Tuesday.

The mo-ped slid into the shoulder lane and the woman suffered head injuries and two broken legs. Paramedics took her in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.

Traffic investigators say the woman was not wearing a helmet. The accident happened under cloudy skies on a dry roadway in moderate traffic. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
