Honolulu firefighter hurt in fall through warehouse roof
A Honolulu firefighter is in the hospital this morning recuperating from injuries he sustained last night when he fell about 30 feet through the roof of a Kalihi warehouse.
Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman, said the firefighter fell while investigating the cause of a fire at 2023 Republican St. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but is not believed to have life-threatening injuries. The extent of his injuries were not known.
Firefighters received the alarm call at 9:56 p.m. to what was believed to be a building fire. When they arrived, they observed a large amount of smoke coming from an oven used to burn off combustible materials from motors.
It was during their investigation that the firefighter fell through the roof. There was no fire damage to the building, Seelig said.
