Windward Oahu residents from Kahaluu to Maunawili are being asked to use water spraringly through the night as city Board of Water Supply workers continue repairs on a water main break near Long Bridge in Heeia.

Crews began work about 4 a.m.Tuesday  to repair the 16-inch main break that prompted Windward Community College, Kaneohe District Court and Pali Golf Course to close for the day. An unspecified number of Windward residential customers lost water service.

An unknown number of customers at higher elevations continued to be without water at 2 p.m., agency spokesman Kurt Tsue said.

Water service is expected to be restored to them in a few hours, he said. In the meantime, customers without water can call the agency at 748-5000 to request a water wagon be sent to their neighborhood.

Windward Oahu residents from Kahaluu to Maunawili are asked to use water sparingly and for priority needs only until further notice, meaning they should use water for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene only.

Windward Community College canceled classes and activities for the day.

The state Judiciary said court hearings scheduled for today were completed before the courthouse was closed about 11:30 a.m.

Because of the early closure, the Hawaii Supreme Court will issue an order extending, by one day, any Kaneohe District Court matter with a filing or hearing due date of June 14.

Court officials anticipate the courthouse will be open Wednesday.

At Pali Golf Course, golfers on the course were allowed to complete their rounds, the city said. Water coolers were placed on the course.
